February 2018

Must be placed by June 1, 2018

WALLIE

Congo African Grey

Species:  African Grey

Name:  Fergie

Age/Sex:  7 years old; unsure of sex

Tame:  Yes

Diet:  Zupreem fruit blend pellets, veggie pellets, various fruits and vegetables daily.

Behavior: Does not scream, chats with words and whistles at times.

Vet:  February 18, 2018

Plucking:  Plucks feathers. Also, has a nasal issue that I've brought Fergie to the vet for. Fergie gets nasal flush occasionally when the nose gets clogged.

Talk:  About 10 words, lot of whistles.

Reason for re-homing:  Fergie must be bored adn consequently is feather picking. I change toys often buth this doesn't do the trick. I take Fergie out of cage daily in the morning for 1.5 hrs, but this also doesn't do the trick. I think in a home with other birds might not be as boring, but I'm not sure, I just feel I'm not able to help Fergie anymore and I feel bad. I would only give Fergie to a home that is experienced with birds and who thinks they could help.

Awaiting Photo--we're not sure if Congo or Timneh

Species:  Congo African Grey

Name:  Gandalf

Age/Sex:  Unknown ~10 years old; male

Tame:  Somewhat--he is skittish, but loves to have his head pet

Diet:  Parrot fruit blend, occasional nut/seed blend.  He loves goldfish crackers

Behavior: He will occasionally nip at you if you come to close without him feeling safe.  He's not especially agressive, just a little nervous

Plucking:  Gandalf has anxiety, it's decreased dramatically over the last two years that we've had him, but he still plucks, particularly when we've been away for vacation or a trip and he's staying with a sitter

Talk:  He's a very calm and quiet bird, loves to be around people, but rarely speaks.  He'll occasionally chirp or flap his wings to indicate he wants to be moved.

Reason for re-homing:  Family is moving out of state this summer and due to Gandolf's anxiety, we think it would be better for him in the long run to stay on Long Island rather than expose him to a cross-country move.  We have a small child and he's more comfortable in a calm and steady environment.

Notes:  When we adopted Gandalf he was nearly naked.  He's a gorgeous and affectionate parrot with very few behavioral issues.  He enjoys being in the room with his humans and watching them live life.  He loves head scratches and treats.  His flight feathers are trimmed and his feathers are growing back nicely.  He truly is a sweet bird--we will miss him.
